Hoot + Louise

If there were an award for most adorable store in Memphis, it would have to go to the ultra-cute South Main boutique, Hoot + Louise.

I'm generally a fan of any business named after someone's grandmother, and Hoot + Louise is no exception. Owner Anna Avant has an awesome mix of vintage items and pieces from indie designers. Plus, how can you not love a store that has this guy hanging out in the dressing room?

Come here often?

OK less talking, more shopping!

OMG you guys, can we talk about that blue hat for a second? The tag says it's a 1950's Mohair Pillbox Hat with veil, and I say it's fabulous.

Totally wearing this Snoozer Loser dress to my next yacht party (on a side note: do any of you guys have a yacht I can borrow?)

Marina And The Diamonds!

I am so excited that I got to interview Marina And The Diamonds for the Birchbox blog.

It was really cool to find out how her new album influenced her new look, plus I got to learn some of her skincare secrets too! :)

Check out the Q&A on the Birchbox blog!

Lunchbox Eats

Let's face it: being an adult is hard. You have to deal with taxes, traffic jams, and worst of all, flossing. It's enough to make you just want to roll out your nap mat, cradle a juice box, and go to bed.

Why not visit Lunchbox Eats instead?

This downtown restaurant makes you feel just like you're back in school, but this time the food is way better. Menu items like the Homeroom Chicken and Grids pictured below, are served on lunch trays and jumbo pencils are provided for you to jot down your menu selections (no cheating!).

Psst...the answer is "C".
Back to the food...my Field Trip Greens salad featured homemade pickles, cornbread croutons and tabasco onions. The presentation was gorgeous, but unfortunately I completely demolished it before getting a good pic. I decided against ordering the Mango Lemonade, but had total beverage envy when my friend received her jar full.

I can't wait to try Lunchbox Eats again and sample the rest of their menu (Honor Roll Burritos, anyone?). I have some leftover school puns, so I'll go ahead and give Lunchbox Eats an A+ for food and extra credit for a super fun concept!

The Green Beetle

The Green Beetle holds the claim to fame as Memphis' oldest tavern. This place has such an amazing history - not only was Desi Arnaz a regular when he would come in town to play at the Chisca Hotel, but rumor has it that it's one of the last places Hank Williams drank before he died.

This is the original front door, which now stands between the restaurant and the hallway that leads to the bathrooms. Check it out next time you're there, and don't miss the pictures of famous regulars that line the walls.

The Great Food Truck Race

So I met Tyler Florence and it was awesome. As you can see, we're both big fans of blue button up shirts. Tyler was so super nice, and I had a great time chatting with him (I made sure that I gave him my timely opinions on Shaq's Big Challenge.)

Oh and the food! It was so good! The trucks were tasked with a vegetarian challenge, which made the menu options pretty interesting (think avocado tacos). My favorites were the truffle fries from Roxy's Grilled Cheese (as pictured in the my current blog header) and the fried hushpuppies that Hodgepodge truck served up. Basically, fried food always wins in my book.
